Lake Balaton is one of the most significant natural treasure of Hungary, and at the Bodorka Balaton Aquarium we can see its complete fish fauna and thanks to the Croatian sister city of Balatonfüred, Opatija, see some of the underwater world of the Adriatic Sea.

The 17 aquariums of the exhibition are located on the ground floor and inner courtyard of the two-storey building at the northern end of the  Tagore Promenade. Information about the species in the aquariums are presented in three languages.

From the 47 species that lived in the Balaton, today only 24 remains - we can see all of them in the Bodorka Balaton Aquarium.

 

The fish, most of them protected, can be seen in an environment resembling their natural habitat. The normal and salt water in the containers are cooled and heated according to the needs of the individual species.
